Mandalas

I found a great tutorial yesterday on how to make digital mandalas using photoshop and spent a fair amount of time trying to figure it out, I didn't quit though and made myself continue until I was creating gorgeous mandalas for myself. I think I was behind the door when they were dishing out the patience quota, so this was a big achievement for me, photoshop can be a tad complicated if you haven't used it before or had instructions on 'how to'. My son was even impressed I only had to ask him for help twice!! YAY. I drew one not that long ago after coming across some beautiful alien inspired artwork. Which in turn, inspired me to want to create a mandala of all things. That is the beauty of art though, it inspires us to create ourselves.

from a curly cabbage flower plant
These mandalas are created using photos, so any photo you have at home of your flowers in the garden, crystals, artworks, just about anything would do. It's amazing what develops from the strangest of beginnings and that is the beauty of life itself.

Mandalas are indeed very beautiful, they seem to draw out the inner self somehow, almost like having a link into your subconscious and the mysterious world it inhabits. You can use them for spiritual and emotional healing, relaxation and awakening, self-realization and growth. You can meditate with your mandala as your focus point. Just looking at them brings an element of peace and inspiration into your being so print one off and carry it around with you, stick one on your work desk, wrap one up and give it to a  work mate who annoys the crap out of you (they will think you are being nice and in the mean time your beautiful mandala will be working it's magick and bringing out their inner happy person). Whack one up in your kids messy room so when you walk in you notice the mandala not the mess!! Be creative with them.

from a photo of mum's flowers
Not everyone likes doodling around on the computer all day so I will set up another page with the mandalas I have created, not that many yet but I'm sure the list will continue to grow. I am totally amazed at what develops from the tiniest section of a photo. So far I have mainly used garden photos and a couple of crystals, I know I will be having a lot more fun with this. Please feel free to use any of these if they inspire you.

Following is the link for the tutorial and after this I have included a couple of great links with some interesting reading about the history of mandalas. Also a great shot of Spooky cat who was in on the mandala action yesterday!!!

Quote of the day...spiritual experience

"We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience."

Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

Somewhere inside of us there is a secret key that will magically unlock 'self' and all it encompasses. We must shift our focus to what is within instead of what is without. Dream language is alive, speaking to us everyday. We live in dreams but our fears do not allow us to capture these dreams that roost so completely within our hearts. And what is the heart? The soul centre, and the soul being the multi-leveled essence that it is, has the ability to bestow these expressions, these dreams to us, if only we could swallow up our crippling fears the way they swallow us up. If we can reverse the cycle and see clearly and strengthfully our dreams are our souls expressing their forms within us, we shall know happiness and freedom in the realization that all our dreams are possible. For it is within that we see, hear and feel the true expressions of life. If we unlock our heart centre, we unlock the way to soul expression and we will live creatively and peacefully.

Guardian Angel crystal art print by Lee Simmons

Believe that you can do anything and have the strength to conquer all obstacles that befall you. Listen to your heart and and inner voice will shine, letting you know always, you are not alone. That the love of the universe flies freely about you to comfort and lift you, give you inspiration and the strength needed to continue on your journey. Believe in the silent nation, the hidden watchers. Know they are there waiting for the signs from all of us. Our thoughts and actions activate their presence within our spheres. They are here to help us and guide us should we so ask, for we are all one, we are all connected by the same life force that runs it's threads throughout every single thing that is visible and invisible within this world and universe. With peace pervading our souls and love within our hearts we will fly, and when we look around, we will see the world is full of wonder and magick. Do something magickal for your self today...........

Orange Spritz

Zingy orange is on the menu for today. Orange is representative of the second chakra which is located in our abdomen area. This chakra is the seat of our feelings and our awareness of them, and is the source of our creative energy. It is the foundation of the emotional body; influencing our ability to feel emotions, sensations and atmospheres and controls our ability to let go of our emotions. Through this chakra we begin to understand our reactions to our inner and outer worlds and decide how we are going to express these reactions.

Orange is a very interesting colour, gloriously warm and cheerful, just check out those happy little poppies. But it is probably the least worn colour of all which indicates many of us just aren't comfortable with our emotions or our creativity, me included (I am very creative but I do let my emotions run a bit rampant, think my husband might say that's a bit of an understatement!!). Actually I don't think I even own a single orange item (oops, I've just realized when reviewing this, I own one orange shopping bag which Spooky cat likes to play in, obviously she is comfortable with all of her business). So I'm guessing we probably all need to do a bit of work on this particular chakra. I have included some links here that have some great clearing techniques for us to try.

Once we have worked on clearing this chakra we can expect to feel rejuvenated, stimulated and brimming over with enthusiasm and vitality. Orange helps us with the assimilation of new ideas and frees the spirit of its limitations, giving us the freedom to be ourselves. At the same time it encourages self-respect and respect of others. So lets paint ourselves orange today and have a whole heap of fun while we're at it. I need more orange!!

Fear Factor!!

Today I want to talk about something I call 'the fear factor' (and I don't mean the TV show that was around for a while). We are constantly bombarded with nasty news articles and horrid images of 'what could be if you keep doing this,' all designed to keep us firmly wedged in the grip of fear. Just yesterday while I was out and about the radio was blaring at me, "This year has seen the worst outbreak of the flu virus yet, we urge people to vaccinate or..............." (fill in the blank for yourself). And it was plastered all over the evening news on the tele. Now excuse me, but wasn't last year's outbreak the worst yet?? Isn't every years these days? My husband's favourite, "Ahh theres going to be an invasion you know, we are going to be over-run by milipedes, they will be everywhere, you mark my words!!" Yes yes my darling I say, FEAR FACTOR I say. I have removed less than a handful this winter from inside, I dunno, but I'm thinking this does not conjure up images of an invasion for me! Unless they've got some super-secret mutiplication weapon stuffed up their creepy crawly little legs, I think I'm pretty safe.

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."
 Frank Herbert

Fear is crippling, it prevents us from achieving our full potential. I view fear as a disease or virus itself, which has penetrated our immune system and has had a field day with our neurological functioning. It is of paramount importance that this cycle of fear be broken for it perpetuates all things dark and angry within the human psyche. It is this festering cloud of ugliness coupled with our lack of self respect and self love that has the ability to stop us in our tracks and destroy our dreams before we even get started. You must work at conquering your fear, don't subscribe to the drama of it all.

"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."

Franklin D Roosevelt

"There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure."

Paulo Coelho (The Alchemist)

The universe is pretty tricky too you know, it has a way of bringing your fears right to your front doorstep so you can work through them. The universe wants us to succeed and it tries to help us in every way possible (even if it doesn't feel like it at the time). I remember when I was living on small acreage in the middle of farming land quite a few years back, one of my biggest fears was snakes. My precious Caesar (big black and white cat) would dump these slithering delights almost at my feet. What choice did I have , I had a baby crawling and three kitties with deadly brown snakes appearing from just about everywhere??? Quickest lesson in how to conquer my fears EVER!! The day I saw my little black cat wearing a four foot brown snake wrapped around her like a necklace I suddenly evolved into super woman, grabbed my short handled shovel and nabbed that thing quicker than you could blink!! Yep, nothing to fear here.

Fear Factor....it's everywhere!! Do not subscribe................

"You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' You must do the thing you think you cannot do."

  Eleanor Roosevelt

Quote of the day - courage

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most importantly, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

Steve Jobs

Ruby Red...

Today's colour is RED RED RED. Some people instantly associate red with anger, but this is not necessarily so. It is the colour which represents 'fire' and action. It is a motivator for when you need to get things done. I remember a number of years ago when it felt like I was squelching through life in a rut, a car was on my list of needs, I didn't care so much what it was, as long as it was red!! My inner self was ready for action and my little red car took me everywhere.

Red is the colour which relates to the first or root chakra. It is the seat of our existence on the physical plane, our will to live. Fed by fire energy from inside and outside ourselves, it is the recipient chakra for kundalini, the raw earth energy feeding our life force and assuring survival. It is connected with primal feelings and is the prime mover behind the fight or flight response, influencing our immune system, our energy, basic impulses, instincts and endurance. The first chakra receives its basic programming from our family. Through this programming we make decisions regarding our right and will to survive. Our earliest experiences are also recorded here, resulting in the awareness or repression of our most primal feelings. We can help to balance this chakra by cooking and cleaning in the home, sitting on the ground or walking barefoot and dancing.

love this red hair
Red boosts our physical energy levels, increases our heart rate and blood pressure and prompts the release of adrenalin. It is fast moving and promotes a need for action and movement. It relates to physical desire in all its forms- sexual, appetite, cravings. Red stimulates and excites our emotions and inspires us to take action. Red is attention getting and demands you to take notice, it has very high visibility, which is why stop signs, stoplights, and fire equipment are usually painted red. In heraldry, red is used to indicate courage. It is a color found in many national flags.

Use the color red to grab attention and to get people to take action. Use red when you don't want to sink into the background. Use red to suggest speed combined with confidence and perhaps even a dash of danger. A little bit of red goes a long way. Small doses can often be more effective than large amounts of this strong color. Multiple shades of red and even pink or orange can combine for a cheerful palette.

A Blog is a blog is a blog????

A blog is a peek inside a person's soul. Well that's the way I see it anyway. I started this blog not long after my husband left for his one year stint of fantastic adventuring (artfully disguised as work) in Antarctica (the South Pole). I needed something to 'fill the gap' I guess and it was a form of therapy for me, something to get me outside of myself and make me think.

When I began I really didn't have any idea of how I wanted to travel with it. I have always loved writing, even as a kid I would write for hours on end about all sorts of weird and wonderful stuff. I have kept journals most of my life so in this fab tech age a blog seemed like the next logical step (mind you logic is something that usually escapes me). And so the blog was born.

no good for blogging but isn't this just gorgeous for journaling, I would like this

When I look back at how I was doing things in the beginning I can see a big change to how things are now, and it has only been a few months. The blog is beginning to take form, evolving and growing in a direction of it's own. The sneaky thing about it is, I naively thought I started it as a way to get 'outside' of myself, but what is really happening is I'm actually getting in touch with the 'inside' of myself. Now this could be quite scary as there is some pretty whacky stuff in there. I am into all things psychic and spiritual so watch this space and I will reveal more from the depths as we travel along this blog/soul journey of discovery.

I do love being inspired by other people's words so the quotes will continue throughout. I'll finish today with one of my all time favourite people, Albert Einstein. An extraordinary man with a bit of a wicked sense of humor I have discovered.

"A question that sometimes drives me hazy: am I or are the others crazy?"

Getting back to colours, beautiful blue

Time to get back to colours, with all the distractions of late I have been a tad remiss in our exploration of colour. So far we have covered green, purple, pink, white and black, so we have a few to go!! Today we will discover the properties of beautiful blue, which is apparently the most universally liked colour. My mother wore blue her entire life and never strayed from it. This was a curiosity to me as I have always been such a rainbow bird. We are all different though aren't we and the world would be a pretty boring place if we were all the same, but blue was certainly mum's favourite.

Blue is the colour representative of our fifth or throat chakra.Through it we express what we think, feel, see, desire and detest. The front of this chakra is often known as the 'seat of responsibility,' for through it we say 'yes' or 'no' to life's options. The key word for the fifth chakra is Expression, when our fifth chakra is balanced it allows for free communication helping us to feel centred and happy. We can balance this chakra by listening to good music, singing, going for walks, looking at the beautiful blue sky or meditating outside.

The color blue is one of trust, honesty and loyalty. It is sincere, reserved and quiet, and doesn't like to make a fuss or draw attention. Blue hates confrontation, and likes to do things in its own way. Blue seeks peace and tranquility above everything else, promoting both physical and mental relaxation. The color blue reduces stress, creating a sense of calmness, relaxation and order.  The energy of blue helps us to look beyond the immediate environment, expanding our perceptions towards the unknown.
Blue is the color of Divinity. It brings peace and understanding, and enhances the easy flow of communication with yourself or others.

No beautiful blue butterflies where I live, but I am blessed with these little blue wrens who love to fossick about in my garden. They build their nests in the reeds by the river and come up to the house to entertain me. They are tiny little things and very gorgeous when they do their little dance all over the lawn!!

Quote of the day - changing the world

The Leopard Queen!!

Okay I have settled on the luscious leopard for the new look. I am the leopard queen afterall. I took a few photos of some of my leopard items to share and suddenly realized that there are leopards in every corner of my space. Leopard tights, bags, shoes, PJs, umbrellas, chairs, cupboards, quilt covers, throw rugs, wall pictures, picture frames, shirts, dresses, scarves, hats, gloves, coat. OMG I really am the leopard queen!! I'll let you in on a little secret, I even have a leopard tattoo across my lower back. I love all felines but the leopard and it's spots are my favourite, particularly the very beautiful snow leopard which is now the blog background. I think he is really something!!

scarves and hats
Suzie Bear & her boyfriend (he is a bit short) and truly Suzi that was her name
I did discover while running from laptop (the laptop which has now gone to computer heaven) to computer that there is a rather large difference between monitors re colours and placement of the gorgeous leopard face. If you have a wider screen monitor there will be a stunning eye staring at you but if you have a regular sized laptop there will only be a partial eye. Either way I hope you you like the new look.

New Energies.....

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."

Mark Twain

I have started the day with a big quote to shake us up and hopefully move us out of our comfort zone. We passed through our last eclipse for a while on Friday 1 July, and this energy certainly made for some interesting and rather emotional days. Actually the last two weeks have been pretty much like a roller coaster ride as all sorts of 'stuff' has been thrown up for clearing before we move into the 'next stage of our lives'. (And still the gods are determined to test the mettle, my whole computer just froze up?? Enough already!!) My dear friend Margot is experiencing similar electrical break downs at the moment as well, this is multiple appliances I might add. There are rather large gremlins in the works everywhere. Ugly little beasts that are determined to wreak havoc in just about every corner of our lives, seems like we are being chewed up and spat out. Use these links for some interesting astrology reports. If you read Anne's go back to the week before as well, what she says may shed some light on why your life may have seemed a tad broken lately. I like to read them 'after the fact' so as not to set up too much anticipation, that can just scare you witless, especially with the energies being hurled up at us at lately.

BUT according to the astro blurbs this is all about to change, so hang in there for we are about to embark on the ride of our lives, a whole new world is waiting, our new lives are almost upon us and it is up to us to make them great. We all need to drag those big dreams we have out of the closet and start believing YES I can do this. If you have ever felt like you needed to change the way you have been living, loving and learning, now is the time. You may have already started without even realizing it!! I have been manically going through cupboards and boxes getting rid of useless clutter, there is an inner compulsion driving me to remove anything that does not feel relevant anymore. At the rate I'm going I will need a truck to transport all of my 'no longer useful to me' objects to the Red Cross.

Nothing has remained untouched in this energy release, relationships have also fallen under the sorting and clearing umbrella and has probably been the hardest energy to deal with. I hate it when clarity slaps me in the face, it hurts big time but it does so for a reason and there is just no sense trundling around with super sized luggage just because it's there, when all you need is a carry on bag. Weighs you down and makes for an uncomfortable journey. There is a very fragile balance at the moment so be kind to yourself, nurture yourself and start working on that dream you have tucked away in your secret place. This is the start of a new week, a new month, new energies and apparently the next stage of our new lives.......... Enjoy!!

Ahhaha What a day!!!

This was me to the left here yesterday!!!! A few simple tweaks and twiddles, I think NOT. If it could go wrong it did....there is this really nice template I have been looking at for ages so I sat here yesterday and after much googling and reading, figured out how to apply it yada yada blah blah blah...BIG mistake. Thankfully I had enough sense to use an old deleted blog as a test dummy. Everything was fine for a short time and then BANG, nothing. Couldn't go anywhere, couldn't sign in anywhere, I was deleted??

My computer whizz son came to the rescue of course, shoved me out of the way, took control of the laptop and wiped the whole thing, I just looked away and pretended not to notice all my 'stuff' disappearing into oblivion. In the meantime I jumped onto the other computer and redid passwords, you know all the stuff you have to do when you stuff up big time.

After that horrifying experience I decided maybe I better just stick to the blogger templates, make my life easier. Then I changed my mind and decided I would download a wallpaper and upload that into blogger for my background. Well if you are reading this you can see my effort, after having altered the pic about a dozen times to get the right size (only with help from fab son who was getting a tad psychotic as I was questioning all he told me to do, he was a little 'not happy Jan' did some foot stamping and yelling and then disappeared!!). Then the dilemma was, what looks good on this big computer does not look the same over there on my newly formatted laptop, hence the hair pulling picture OMG!! And colour difference, so totally not the same between the two computers??? Back to the drawing board, so don't worry if you see a visual nightmare over the next couple of days it will just be me running from computer to laptop double-checking every little change!!!

But wait there's more! More you say? Why yes, just when I thought I had everything semi-organized BANG, the whole blog turned into a mush of weirdness and I was locked out again?? As I was on the other computer when it happened I started to think all my hair pulling could have been avoided. Yes indeedy, seems there was a huge problem within Blogger itself and I wasn't the only one subjected to all sorts of weird and not so wonderful things. Ahhaha what a day (the whole day I might add), and this just happened to coincide with me tweaking so of course I thought I was the problem. Oh well I have Windows 7 out of all the drama, that's gotta be good doesn't it??? What will I do today, something that doesn't involve computers!!
