Quote of the Day - fantasy & imagination

"I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope. Which is what I do, and that enables you to laugh at life's realities."

The First Grade Parade: Writer’s Workshop Anchor Charts

The First Grade Parade: Writer’s Workshop Anchor Charts: I’ve always been a big fan of writing.  I love to see the progress my kids make throughout the year…it’s always so remarkable!!  No matter w...

Amazing blog from an inspirational teacher. Click the above link to check it out.

Writing is all of this and more. As a child I spent hour after hour writing my deepest thoughts and dreams upon reams and reams of paper. It fostered a love of words and stories which has lasted an entire lifetime. Where would we be without them? They move mountains, galvanize nations, inspire, warm the very depths of the heart and create legacies that last through generation after generation.

Start your journal today, not only will it be like having a very special private friend, it will inspire you as you look back over your thoughts and achievements throughout your life. It will help you through hard times and show you the road back when you have lost your way. You will be amazed at the depth and colour you will have woven within your world and every so often you will clearly hear your soul speak to you through the pages of your journal. To hear the soul in this way is one of life's most precious and rewarding gifts. So start your book of life today.

"Whatever words we utter should be chosen with care for people will hear them and be influenced by them for good or ill."

Random Acts of Kindness Challenge

"A warm smile is the universal language of kindness."

William Arthur Ward

Was watching the TV last night and saw and advert for the 1 Million Acts of Kindness challenge. What a fantastic idea and a great thing to participate in. I have signed on this morning and have set up a team if anyone wants to come on board. You don't have to be in a team, can just do this yourself so no pressure or anything. If you would like to be part of the team just search ShineOnwithLM after you have signed yourself up. I just have to accept people into the team when I log back in.

The object of the challenge is to log 1 million random acts of kindness in eight weeks; "An 8-week challenge designed to encourage us to perform random acts of kindness to ourselves, loved ones, acquaintances, strangers, animals, and even the environment - to help create a happier, healthier and more trusting environment." When you sign up there are lots of helpful tips and ideas on your own page to get you started. It is all free so go for it and help make our community and world a better place, there is nothing more rewarding than helping, and in this day and age there seem to be so many needing that little extra smile to help them continue on their journey.

A New Life

At the moment many people are doing it really tough. The world as we know it seems to be crumbling down around us and it is becoming harder and harder to stay on top of things and positive. Is this a bad thing? Outwardly it would appear so, but inwardly this was a road we all needed to traverse. We all need to return to the basics and learn how to be as self-sufficient as possible. We all need to learn to live within our means and not succumb to the endless cycling of the credit system, as we plunge further and further into debt with seemingly no way out. Whole countries are currently crashing because of this ridiculous way of living.

We live in a 'throw away society', a society where more value is placed on things, rather than on the intangible qualities and values that really are important and the living of life itself for that matter. When I was growing up there was never much money, you worked hard to earn a few dollars (gee that makes me sound as old as Methuselah) and you made do with the little you had. I listen to my mother-in-law's amazing life stories and realize my life was even way easier than hers, they truly had nothing and worked their fingers to the bone for every morsel and 'waste' wasn't even a word in their vocabulary, nothing was ever wasted. Somewhere along the road money became much easier to 'get' and with it came a whole new way of life. The biggest, best and newest of just about everything you could lay your hands on was on the 'must haves' list, the banks offered us credit to get it and we took it. Now look at us!! Stuck between a rock and a hard place as the world closes in around us.

Now we are being forced to re-evaluate life, the universe and everything and look for a better way. Scaling down is high on my agenda, recycling or upcycling as it seems to be called now, growing your own veges, solar power and just generally living a much simpler life. Anything to ease the burden of life as we know it these days. Work to live, not live to work as they say, there is plenty to enjoy on this earth and while we are chasing our tails on the merry-go-round of a busy busy credit filled life, we have no time to do just that, enjoy life!!

We all need positivity and those little gems of wisdom that perk us up and make us feel better, which is why I try to find as many as possible for the blog, it helps me feel better anyway. But at some point you do have to lift your head out from under the covers and address the problems that exist, all the positive blurbs in the universe aren't going to make them go 'poof' and disappear as if by magick, it will take hard work and a whole new attitude.

It is now time for all of us to find that better life, that inspirational life we all dream of that just makes us want to leap out of bed in the morning with a huge smile on our faces. Time to release the old and all the clutter that goes with it and start creating something simple and beautiful.

"To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter... to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird's nest or a wildflower in spring - these are some of the rewards of the simple life."
